Hailing from the Midwest, Douglas K. Gifford an American contemporary painter known for his innovative take on the 3-dimenisional--was born and raised in Evanston, Illinois. Beginning his painting career in 1967, Gifford left Bucknell University, in Lewisburg, PA, and transferred to The Ringling Art School to more carefully focus on developing his craft. Earning many different awards and commissions throughout his undergraduate career, Gifford graduated and went on to host one-artist shows in New York, Palm Beach, Nantucket, and Naples. Influenced early in his career by Edward Hopper, an American realist painter and printmaker, Gifford enjoys painting architecture. He is most known for his development of a 3-dimensional painting technique, called Stereo Schema Realism, which he created as a response to the constructionist view of space. Like his technique, Gifford is as an artist both impressive and unique in every way. Today, he focuses much of his art on architecture of the Caribbean islands.
